48-Year-Old Patient Commits Suicide By Slitting Throat At Salem Govt Hospital

Salem: In a tragic incident, a 48-year-old patient allegedly committed suicide by using a blade to cut his throat while undergoing treatment at the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital (SGMKMCH) on Saturday.
The man was discovered in a gruesome condition, with blood seeping from his throat, at approximately 7 am.
Based on the initial inquiry, it appears that the patient was distressed by the separation of his wife and daughter from him, resulting from a family dispute. Following this, he was living with his Brother Raja.

Furthermore, the patient was also upset regarding his well-being due to his diabetes, which is believed to have added to his overall emotional state. The police speculate that these two concerns may have contributed to his decision to take such an extreme measure.
According to a TOI news report, the deceased was working at a sofa repair unit in the city and hailed from Johnson Pettai in Salem.
During the tragic occurrence, the patient was receiving medical care and undergoing treatment at the male ward of the hospital for the injuries on his legs. The horrific incident was discovered by his brother Raja who was staying with him. It is believed that after Raja fell asleep, the patient allegedly slit his own throat. When Raja woke up, he was shocked and devastated to discover him in such a horrifying state.
Immediately, the doctors and staff of the hospital were alerted who then contacted the GH outpost police. Upon arriving at the location, the police conducted a preliminary examination and found that the blade was lying in between the fingers of the patient. However, It is unclear how the patient got hold of a blade at a hospital.
Speaking to the daily, a police officer said "Preliminary inquiry revealed that Anandhan's wife Asha, 40, and their 13-year-old daughter had separated from him over a family feud, and he was upset over it."
