Indore Medical College Ragging Incident
Indore: After first year MBBS students of Indore's Government Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College reported yet another incident of ragging by senior students on 22nd January, 2023, the college authorities have identified a second-year MBBS student who was involved in the incident.
The incident came to light when a first year MBBS student of the college called Sanyogitaganj police on 22nd January and reported cases of ragging by senior students. The students alleged that their seniors called the juniors to their room at the boys hostel at 3 am and harassed them. A similar incident of ragging was reported from the college a few months back where the juniors were allegedly made to perform obscene acts.

After receiving the call from the first year medico, the police asked the college authorities to reach the spot. The anti ragging committee of the college organized a meeting on 23rd January, the day after the incident, to record the statements of the first year students and to talk to them personally.
The students, after some initial hesitancy to reveal information, eventually wrote the name of a senior on a slip and passed it to the authorities.
Speaking to the Times of India, the college dean Dr Sanjay Dixit said, "We launched probe after learning about the incident. We talked to the junior students and our probe is still underway." Dr Dixit further added, "There is no formal complaint yet and conclusive evidence against one name which came before committee. The report of the committee is yet to come."
The college authorities are yet to take any formal action as they are reportedly waiting for a concrete evidence and formal complaint. The dean said, "We will take appropriate and stern action if any student is found guilty in the probe."
In the previous incident of ragging, the team had earlier reported about the suspension of eleven MBBS students for three months from MGM Medical College for ragging their juniors. The Sanyogitaganj police station inspector Tahzeeb Qazi had at that time stated that the college management had lodged a criminal complaint with the police after an aggrieved student petitioned the helpline of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Three students were also booked by the police under relevant sections of IPC and were subsequently arrested.
