Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a 16-year-old girl suffering from a fever died after being treated by an unqualified medical practitioner in his clinic in the Suryapet district, who allegedly administered her injections and saline solutions. This incident has prompted the Telangana State Medical Council (TGMC) to take suo motu cognizance of the issue.
The council has directed its Legal and Anti-Quackery Committee to conduct an inquiry and asked them to submit a report soon for further action. An FIR will be lodged based on the findings of the inquiry.
The incident came to light on Saturday but had happened a week ago in Enakunta Thanda in the Suryapet district. The girl who was ill with a fever for two days was brought to the fake doctor's clinic for treatment. After checking her condition, the quack gave her two injections and a saline solution. Following this, the girl complained of severe stomach pain and vomiting. Shortly after, she passed away.

Speaking to TOI, TGMC registrar Dr D Lalaiah Kumar said, "The incident happened due to the quack's treatment. The quack has been illegally practising modern medicine without any MBBS qualification and posing as a genuine doctor. The TGMC has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter and has asked the Legal and Anti-Quackery Committee to conduct an inquiry and submit a report and then FIR will be lodged based on the report."
Dr Naresh Kumar, TGMC member, Warangal unit, who is part of the inspection team said, "People, especially in remote villages, usually seek treatment from quacks. The quack was not qualified to treat patients. As of now, it is not clear what medicine or injection was given to the girl. Generally, quacks give paracetamol, dexona or steroid injections to treat fever cases."
had earlier reported that the Telangana Medical Council conducted inspections across various clinics in Parigi, Vikarabad, Moinabad, and Tandur on Saturday. During the inspection, 25 quacks posing as doctors were charged with criminal complaints.
The inspection revealed that these doctors were operating without an MBBS certificate and had only completed their intermediate education. The inspection also uncovered that these quacks operated between 8 and 10 beds in in-house pharmacies and scanning centres.
