New Delhi: More than one crore healthcare workers have been registered with the government CO-WIN application, the government's digital platform real-time monitoring of COVID-19 vaccine delivery, the Union Health Minister recently informed the parliament.
Responding to a question raised on the estimated number of healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses and lab technicians in the country, the minister informed that a total of 1,04,09,651 health care workers have been registered on the Co-WIN application till 14th December 2021.
The data shared by the ministry indicates that Maharashtra has the highest number (more than 13 Crores) in terms of healthcare workers registered on Co-WIN portal whereas Lakshadweep (1,297) is the lowest in number. 18 states have numbers more than a lakh registrations.

The states include Andhra Pradesh (4,89,693), Assam (2,18,481), Bihar (5,29,808), Chhattisgarh (3,15,494), Delhi (2,66,195), Gujrat (6,30,917), Haryana (2,56,040), Jammu and Kashmir (1,06,275), Jharkhand (2,10,581), Karnataka (7,86,705), Kerala (5,50,386), Madhya Pradesh (4,98,899), Odisha (3,56,620), Punjab (2,23,068), Rajasthan (5,62,650), Tamil Naidu (6,05,455), Uttar Pradesh (9,83,733), Uttarakhand (1,21,362), West Bengal (6,59,142).
Among all the states two Daman and Diu (2,209), and Lakshdweep (1,297) have numbers less than 5000 registration.
In reply to the question asked in Lok Sabha, the Union Health Minister mentioned that the detailed numbers record of healthcare workers affected with the COVID -19 are the responsibility of the State, not with Central Government.
"Data on Healthcare Workers who contracted COVID-19 is expected to be maintained by respective States/UTs and are not maintained Centrally. The government of India has given first priority to Health Care Workers for COVID-19 vaccination so that they are conferred full protection provided by the vaccine against COVID-19. The Covid vaccination in India started on 16th January 2021 and the first group taken up for this vaccination is the Healthcare Workers," the minister stated in his reply
